on a plane from denver to boston…coming from a concert at UC denver with the great big piano trio, our debut, and on my way to a jim brickman show in worcester, MA. the GBPT is myself and phil aaberg, piano, and eugene friesen cello. we just finished our CD called "3 part invention". the show went very well last night with a lot of various artists from the UCross arts retreat in attendance. (the GBPT was born in UCross 2 years ago.) the CD is our reinterpretations of some works of bach. it will be printed up soon and will be available to purchase on this site within the next month or so. it's definitely not for purists—we go everywhere from brazil to new orleans for our inspiration, but it's all works by j.s.bach and it''s all acoustic, which is something I haven't done in a long time. so I have my acoustic violin, my acoustic 6-string viola and my electric 6-string for the brickman show, along with all the gear that comes with the electric—2 road cases full—which along with the stomach flu that greeted me in Denver 3 days ago, makes for an uncomfortable and weary traveler.
on the eclectica front, as you can see by the article to the right, the new CD is done and has shipped to those who preordered it. we are still trying to get a tour together, which in the current economic climate is proving to be a challenge. we had really hoped to be playing festivals this summer but it looks like that may happen next year instead. as those of you who have been waiting for the new release know, these things always take longer than planned to come together.
instead, I'll be back at the mark o'connor fiddle camp in june in Nashville and at the Belmont university string crossings camp the week before.
and I've also been very busy working with master puppeteer brian hull on a puppet opera called "masters" which revolves around Michelangelo, van gogh, da vinci and Picasso. I'm writing all the music and we are shooting a video in a week and a half for music which I haven't yet written using a recording of it that I haven't yet recorded. so I have my work cut out for me mon-wed before I head back out with the GBPT thur-sun for a concert in Sheridan, WY.
plus it's mother's day and end of the school year for my kids…never a dull moment. more later…
